Mumbai, August 10: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has received threat-intelligence alerts alleging possible exposure of certain employee information, although the company said there is currently no indication that customer data, customer systems or its operational systems have been impacted.
In an exchange notification, TCS said the information referenced in the alerts appears to be more than four years old and is limited to basic employee information.
According to the company, the attacker claimed to have used password spraying and multi-factor authentication (MFA) fatigue as the attack vector. TCS said it has had strong safeguards against such techniques in place for more than two years.
“Based on a current review, our controls remain effective,” the company said, adding that it continues to monitor its environment closely.
TCS further said it will assess any new information that becomes available and take appropriate action if required.
The development highlights the growing cybersecurity risks faced by large technology companies, where employee credentials and identity systems can become targets for sophisticated social-engineering and credential-based attacks.
Despite the reported alerts, TCS has not indicated any impact on customer information, customer systems or its own operational infrastructure.
TCS shares closed 0.80 per cent lower at Rs 2,434 on the BSE on Monday, compared with a 0.06 per cent gain in the benchmark index.
