Mumbai: Reliance Jio has announced Jio Prime, a new membership that will allow customers to lock the current price of their eligible mobile recharge plan for more than a year. Customers can pay a one-time membership fee of Rs 300 and secure the current price of their plan until September 5, 2027.
Jio Prime will be available from August 20, 2026. Customers will be able to purchase the membership through the MyJio app, Jio.com, Jio Stores and authorised Jio partner stores. The membership will be available to existing prepaid and postpaid users as well as new Jio customers.
Users of other telecom networks can also join by porting their existing mobile number to Jio or purchasing a new Jio connection.
One of the key features of Jio Prime is that customers will not be tied to a single recharge plan. After taking the membership, users will be able to switch to other eligible Jio plans while continuing to receive Prime benefits.
The announcement comes at a time when mobile recharge prices are again in focus. Airtel recently made changes to its prepaid portfolio and removed some popular plans, including the Rs 299 plan. Following the changes, the Rs 349 plan has become its entry option in the 28-day daily-data category.
Jio, meanwhile, has said that its existing Rs 299 recharge plan will continue. The option to lock current prices through Prime could therefore provide more certainty to customers worried about possible tariff increases.
Jio Prime is not a mandatory recharge plan. In addition to price protection, members will receive two cashback vouchers worth Rs 600 in total. One Rs 300 voucher can be used while taking a new JioHome or JioPC connection. Another Rs 300 voucher can be used for a new Jio SIM for a family member or friend.
Prime members will also get early access to new Jio products and services, along with priority customer support through a dedicated channel.
