Maruti Suzuki rolled out several new and updated models over the past year, but its passenger vehicle market share remained largely stagnant. The automaker’s share slipped to 40.3% during January-July 2026.
Highlights:
- Maruti Suzuki’s market share stood at 40.3% in January-July 2026.
- This compares with 40.6% during the same period in 2025.
- Maruti Suzuki sales increased to about 1.12 million units from 1.01 million units.
- The company launched multiple new and updated models during the period..
Maruti Suzuki has stepped up its product launches over the past year, introducing new and updated models across key segments. However, the launch push has so far failed to translate into a higher passenger vehicle market share.
According to data cited in the report from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Maruti Suzuki held a 40.3% share of India’s passenger vehicle market during January-July 2026, marginally lower than 40.6% during the corresponding period of 2025.
The decline in market share came despite an increase in the company’s volumes. Maruti Suzuki’s sales rose from around 1.01 million units in January-July 2025 to about 1.12 million units during January-July 2026.
Overall passenger vehicle sales also expanded significantly, increasing from around 2.51 million units to more than 3.03 million units over the same periods. This indicates that while Maruti Suzuki sold more vehicles, the wider passenger vehicle market expanded faster.
Multiple Models Launched
Maruti Suzuki has been on an aggressive product offensive. The Baleno facelift is among the latest additions to its portfolio and represents the company’s fourth fresh product introduction in less than a year, according to the report.
The company’s earlier launches included the Victoris in September 2025. It also introduced the all-electric eVitara in December, with deliveries beginning in February. The electric SUV reportedly crossed the 10,000-unit sales mark relatively quickly.
Maruti Suzuki subsequently launched the updated Brezza on July 24. The model reportedly generated more than 55,000 bookings within 35 days of its launch.
Despite these launches and higher sales volumes, Maruti Suzuki’s overall market share has remained around the 40% level.
New Baleno Starts at ₹6.09 Lakh
Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki has launched the new Baleno at a starting price of ₹6.09 lakh, positioning the premium hatchback against rivals such as the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Toyota Glanza.
The new Baleno is expected to strengthen Maruti Suzuki’s presence in the premium hatchback segment as the automaker seeks to convert its expanding product portfolio into stronger market-share gains.
