Maharashtra has taken a major step in digital governance by integrating its Mahasarathi (Family ID) system with DigiLocker, allowing nearly 14 crore residents to securely access, store, and share their Family ID digitally.
The Mahasarathi Family ID serves as Maharashtra’s foundational household identifier and is used to facilitate access to various government schemes, welfare benefits, and citizen services. With the new integration, residents can retrieve their Family ID anytime through DigiLocker and use it for verification purposes without relying on physical documents.
The integration works both ways. Citizens who already possess a Mahasarathi Family ID can fetch it into DigiLocker, while those who do not have one can apply for a new Family ID directly through the platform by providing digital consent.
How Citizens Can Access Their Family ID
- Log in to the DigiLocker app or website.
- Search for “Mahasarathi / Family ID Maharashtra.”
- Enter the required details and provide consent.
- Fetch and save the credential instantly in DigiLocker.
Officials said the initiative will make it easier for residents to access welfare schemes and government services through platforms such as Aaple Sarkar, while improving efficiency, transparency, and convenience.
The Family ID is issued directly by the source authority, making it a legally valid digital credential that can be instantly verified and securely shared whenever required.
