Tata Motors is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the much-awaited Tata Sierra EV on June 30. The upcoming electric SUV will become the seventh EV in the company’s Indian lineup, further strengthening Tata Motors’ position in the country’s fast-growing electric mobility market.
The Sierra nameplate holds a special place in Tata Motors’ history, and the company is now bringing it back in an all-electric avatar with modern technology, premium features, and enhanced performance capabilities. One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming SUV is the confirmation of a dual-motor Quad-Wheel Drive (QWD) variant, making it one of the few mass-market electric SUVs in India to offer all-wheel-drive capability.
In terms of design, the Tata Sierra EV is expected to retain much of the styling seen on its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. The SUV will feature a bold and upright front fascia, sleek LED headlamps, connected LED taillights, and large 19-inch alloy wheels. These design elements are expected to give the vehicle a modern and futuristic road presence.
Inside the cabin, Tata Motors is focusing heavily on technology and comfort. The Sierra EV will feature a premium triple-screen setup consisting of a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 12.3-inch passenger display. The SUV is also expected to offer automatic climate control, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a JBL 12-speaker sound system, a dashboard-integrated soundbar, and Dolby Atmos audio technology.
Safety is another major focus area. The SUV is expected to come equipped with Level-2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), offering 22 safety and driver-assistance features. Given that the ICE version of the Sierra has already secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, expectations are high for the electric version as well.
Tata Motors has confirmed that the Sierra EV will be available in two drivetrain options. The Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version will use a single electric motor aimed at maximizing efficiency, while the QWD variant will feature motors on both the front and rear axles for improved traction and off-road performance.
Although official battery specifications remain undisclosed, industry reports suggest Tata Motors is targeting a driving range of more than 500 kilometers on a single charge. Full details regarding pricing, battery capacity, and performance figures are expected to be revealed at the official launch event.
