New Delhi: Reliance Jio continues to strengthen its leadership in India’s broadband market, powered by the rapid expansion of JioFiber and JioAirFiber services. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) report for May 2026, the company remains the market leader in both fixed wired broadband and 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), reflecting the growing demand for high-speed internet across households and businesses.
JioAirFiber has emerged as a major growth engine for the company in the fast-expanding 5G FWA segment. The technology enables users to access high-speed broadband without the need for traditional fiber cable installation, making it an attractive option for homes, offices, schools, retail stores and small businesses. By the end of May 2026, Jio’s 5G FWA subscriber base had reached approximately 89.68 lakh.
The latest TRAI data also highlights Jio’s dominance in this category. During May alone, the company added nearly 4 lakh new FWA subscribers, while its closest competitor, Bharti Airtel, added only around 10,000 customers. As a result, Jio now commands nearly 78.4 percent of India’s total Fixed Wireless Access market.
The company’s leadership extends to the wired broadband segment as well. JioFiber ended May 2026 with 1.44 crore fixed wired broadband subscribers, comfortably ahead of Airtel’s 1.09 crore customers. The growth reflects increasing demand for reliable, high-speed internet connections as digital adoption continues to accelerate across urban and semi-urban India.
India’s overall broadband market also continued its upward trajectory. The country’s total broadband subscriber base stood at 108.01 crore at the end of May 2026. Jio remained the largest broadband service provider with 52.96 crore subscribers, while Airtel held the second position with 37.61 crore subscribers. Although Airtel added around 29.2 lakh broadband subscribers during the month compared to Jio’s 21.5 lakh, Jio maintained a significant lead in overall market share.
Reliance Jio also retained its leadership in mobile services based on active users. TRAI’s report showed that the company accounted for 44.2 percent of India’s active mobile subscriber base in May. Active users represent customers who regularly use mobile network services, making the metric an important indicator of customer engagement and network performance.
The latest figures underline Jio’s continued strength across broadband and mobile services as demand for faster connectivity and digital services continues to grow across the country.
