News Story
New Delhi, July 3, 2026: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new facility that allows residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar directly through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
The service became available from July 1, 2026, and will remain free of charge for a period of six months.
Strong Initial Response
According to UIDAI, more than 2.5 lakh residents updated their email addresses within the first two days of the service becoming available.
The move is aimed at improving convenience while encouraging more Aadhaar holders to keep their contact information updated digitally.
Improved Security And Transparency
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables users to receive real-time notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is processed.
This additional communication channel helps residents monitor the use of their Aadhaar and enhances transparency by providing timely alerts regarding authentication activities.
Aadhaar App Expanding Digital Services
The Aadhaar App has become a key platform for accessing various Aadhaar-related services directly through smartphones.
Apart from email updates, residents can also update their mobile numbers and addresses through the application without visiting a physical centre.
UIDAI stated that more than 40 lakh mobile number updates and nearly 10 lakh address updates have already been completed using the Aadhaar App.
Supporting Digital India
The initiative aligns with the government’s Digital India vision by reducing paperwork, minimizing physical visits, and improving ease of access to citizen services.
UIDAI has encouraged residents to download or update the Aadhaar App and take advantage of the new email update facility during the free-service period.
