Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has begun the Spain leg of his official visit with a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening the India–Spain economic partnership. The visit comes as both countries celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations and mark the India–Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence 2026.
During the visit, Goyal met Carlos Cuerpo Caballero, Spain’s First Vice-President and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business. The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment, improving market access, strengthening resilient supply chains and promoting innovation-led growth. Both sides also reviewed progress on the proposed India–EU Free Trade Agreement and agreed to utilise the Fast Track Mechanism to facilitate new investments.
The Commerce Minister also held talks with Jordi Hereu Boher, Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism. The discussions covered cooperation in clean energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, mobility, railways, smart infrastructure and tourism. Both leaders highlighted the C-295 aircraft programme as a successful example of industrial collaboration under the Make in India initiative.
A major highlight of the visit was the India–Spain Business Forum, jointly organised by FICCI, the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, CEOE and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment. Government officials and industry leaders from both countries explored opportunities to expand bilateral trade, investment and business partnerships.
Addressing the forum, Goyal highlighted India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy and invited Spanish companies to increase investments across sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technologies and innovation.
The minister also met senior officials of ICEX Spain Trade and Investment to discuss measures for increasing bilateral investment flows, technology partnerships and greater participation of Spanish companies in India’s growth story.
The visit concluded with an interaction with members of the Indian business delegation, where Goyal encouraged stronger business collaborations and investments between the two countries. The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Spain to deepen cooperation in trade, industry, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
