Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced the beta version of its redesigned ticket booking website to make online train reservations faster and more user-friendly. The new portal was launched on July 15 and is currently available for users to test before its official rollout.
The redesigned website focuses on improving the overall booking experience by reducing unnecessary interruptions. Users will now encounter fewer captchas, pop-ups and flashing graphics, making the booking process smoother and quicker.
One of the biggest improvements is that passengers can now view seat availability across all travel classes on a single screen. This eliminates the need to switch between different classes repeatedly, helping users compare options more efficiently.
IRCTC has also simplified the ticket booking process by reducing the number of steps required to complete a reservation. Frequent travellers can save passenger details, allowing them to book tickets much faster without entering the same information every time.
The redesign was based on suggestions from students of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), who participated in improving the website’s look and usability. According to the Railways, the beta version has been released to collect user feedback, which will be used to make further refinements before the final launch.
Users can access the new portal either directly through the IRCTC e-ticketing website or by clicking the beta version link available on the existing IRCTC homepage.
The Railways will also integrate the new website with an upgraded Passenger Reservation Engine in the coming weeks. Once this integration is complete, the fully functional version of the new IRCTC ticket booking portal is expected to be launched nationwide.
