New Delhi: Bharti Airtel has successfully completed the first phase of a strategic mobile connectivity project in Arunachal Pradesh in partnership with the Indian Army’s 4 Corps based in Tezpur.
The initiative aims to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure in some of India’s most remote, high-altitude, and strategically important border regions. Under the first phase, Airtel has deployed network infrastructure across 30 military stations, becoming the first telecom operator to provide reliable mobile connectivity in several of these difficult-to-access areas.
The project is expected to significantly improve communication capabilities for military personnel stationed in remote border locations while also benefiting local civilian communities by providing access to dependable voice and data services.
Many of the regions covered under the project have historically faced connectivity challenges due to difficult terrain, harsh weather conditions, and limited infrastructure. The newly established network is expected to bridge communication gaps and support both operational and civilian needs.
Airtel credited the Indian Army for providing extensive logistical support throughout the project. The Army assisted in laying fiber infrastructure, facilitating power connectivity, and transporting telecom equipment and technical teams to locations where road access was either limited or unavailable.
The successful completion of the first phase has paved the way for further expansion. Airtel and the Indian Army have now agreed to proceed with Phase 2, which will involve the deployment of network infrastructure at 15 additional locations across Arunachal Pradesh.
