Amul’s Aggressive FMCG Push Reshapes Its Business Model

New Delhi: India’s leading dairy giant Amul is rapidly transforming itself from a traditional milk-and-butter brand into a diversified fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) powerhouse. Operating under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the company is now expanding aggressively into new product categories such as pizza, protein shakes, cookies, flour, coffee-based drinks, and frozen foods.

The company has crossed a major milestone by achieving a ₹1 lakh crore turnover in FY2026, strengthening its position as one of India’s largest dairy and food enterprises. Over the past year, Amul has launched nearly 100 new products and developed more than 1200 stock-keeping units (SKUs), expanding its presence across over 50 product categories.Rapid Product Expansion and Diversification Strategy.

Distribution Overhaul and Rural Market Focus

To address these challenges, Amul has redesigned its distribution strategy by categorizing its products into four major channels: Ambient, Chilled, Fresh, and Frozen. This restructuring is designed to improve supply chain efficiency and ensure better product availability across regions.

The company is also targeting deeper penetration into smaller markets, aiming to reach pin codes with populations as low as 5,000. This move is expected to significantly strengthen its presence in rural and semi-urban India.

Global Expansion Plans

Alongside domestic growth, Amul is also accelerating its international expansion. It is partnering with the Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) in the United States and expanding its footprint across Europe and Africa.
