Apple MacBook Ultra Could Debut in 2026 with OLED Display, Touchscreen and New Sizes

Highlights

  • Apple may launch its first-ever OLED MacBook in 2026.
  • MacBook Ultra could arrive in 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch display variants.
  • Samsung Display is expected to supply advanced hybrid OLED panels.
  • Touchscreen support and Dynamic Island could be introduced for the first time on a MacBook.

Apple is reportedly preparing to introduce a new premium laptop lineup called the MacBook Ultra, and it could become one of the biggest upgrades in MacBook history. According to recent industry reports, the upcoming device may feature Apple’s first-ever OLED display on a laptop, along with a redesigned form factor and new screen sizes.

A report from market research firm Omdia suggests that Samsung Display will supply OLED panels for the MacBook Ultra. Apple is expected to use an advanced hybrid OLED technology that combines Oxide Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) and RGB tandem OLED architecture. This display technology is designed to improve power efficiency, deliver better brightness levels, and extend battery life compared to conventional OLED panels.

The new display system could also reduce the amount of internal space required for screen components. This may allow Apple to create a thinner and lighter MacBook while potentially making room for larger batteries and enhanced cooling systems.

Reports indicate that the MacBook Ultra may arrive in two screen sizes: 14.3 inches and 16.3 inches. These dimensions are slightly larger than the current MacBook Pro models, which are available in 14.2-inch and 16.2-inch variants. The larger displays could provide users with more screen real estate without significantly increasing the overall footprint of the device.

Another major upgrade being discussed is touchscreen functionality. While Apple has traditionally kept touchscreen technology exclusive to the iPad lineup, the MacBook Ultra could mark a significant shift in strategy. The device is also rumored to feature a Dynamic Island-style interface positioned at the top center of the display, bringing a familiar iPhone-inspired experience to Mac users.

Industry reports suggest that the MacBook Ultra could launch during the third quarter of 2026, potentially around September. If these reports prove accurate, the device may sit above the MacBook Pro lineup as Apple’s most advanced laptop, targeting professionals, creators, and power users seeking cutting-edge performance and display technology.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the MacBook Ultra, the growing number of reports indicates that the company could be preparing a major evolution of its MacBook portfolio.
