New Delhi, June 25, 2026: The Centre has revised the fees charged for passport and travel-document services, significantly increasing the cost of fresh passports, reissues and replacements for lost or damaged documents.
Under the revised fee structure, an ordinary fresh passport or reissue of a 36-page booklet for applicants aged 18 years and above will cost ₹2,500. The corresponding Tatkal charge, including the normal application fee, has been fixed at ₹5,000.
A fresh or reissued 60-page passport for an adult will cost ₹3,500 under the normal category and ₹6,000 under Tatkal.
The new rates were notified by the Ministry of External Affairs through the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026, and will become effective from July 1, 2026.
The revised structure replaces the existing fee of ₹1,500 for a 36-page passport and ₹2,000 for a 60-page passport.
Higher Fees for Minors
For applicants below 18 years of age, the normal fee for a fresh or reissued 36-page passport has been increased from ₹1,000 to ₹1,750. Under the Tatkal category, the fee will be ₹4,250.
A replacement 36-page passport issued to a minor after the original document is lost or damaged will cost ₹4,250 normally and ₹6,750 under Tatkal.
Lost or Damaged Passport Charges
Adults seeking a replacement for a lost or damaged 36-page passport will have to pay ₹5,000 under the normal category and ₹7,500 under Tatkal.
For a replacement 60-page passport, the revised fee will be ₹6,000 normally and ₹8,500 under Tatkal.
Other Passport Service Charges Revised
The government has also revised charges for several passport-related services.
A Police Clearance Certificate, Surrender Certificate, Global Entry Program verification or another miscellaneous certificate based on passport records will cost ₹750.
A Certificate of Identity will cost ₹1,000, while an Emergency Certificate issued within India will continue to carry no normal fee.
Passport Validity Remains Unchanged
Passports issued to adult applicants will continue to remain valid for up to 10 years.
For minors, passports will generally remain valid for five years or until the applicant turns 18, whichever occurs earlier.
The government has also retained the 10% discount on fresh passport application fees for children aged up to eight years and senior citizens above 60. The concession applies only to fresh applications and not to passport reissues.
Applicants planning to apply for or renew their passports after July 1 should check the revised fee payable for their selected booklet size and service category before booking an appointment.
