Oil marketing companies have announced a major reduction in the prices of commercial liquefied petroleum gas cylinders from August 1, offering relief to restaurants, hotels and other businesses that depend on LPG for cooking and commercial operations.
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by ₹202 in Delhi. Following the latest revision, the cylinder will now cost ₹2,728 in the national capital.
In Kolkata, the price has been cut by ₹209. The revised retail price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in the city is ₹2,872.50.
The reduction applies only to commercial LPG cylinders. Prices of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders used by households have not been changed. Consumers will, therefore, continue to pay the existing rates for household cooking gas.
This is the second consecutive monthly reduction in commercial LPG prices. In July, the price of a 19-kg cylinder in Delhi was reduced by ₹183.50, bringing the rate down to ₹2,930. After the latest cut of ₹202, the cylinder has become significantly cheaper for commercial users.
The repeated reduction is expected to lower operating costs for businesses such as restaurants, roadside food outlets, catering companies, hotels and institutional kitchens. LPG is a major recurring expense for these establishments, and even a small reduction in cylinder prices can help control overall costs.
Oil marketing companies had also reduced the price of 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders by ₹13 in July. Following that revision, the price of a 5-kg cylinder in Delhi came down to ₹808.50.
The latest price cut comes at a time when global energy markets remain volatile due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Crude oil, natural gas and transportation costs have been affected by supply-related concerns in the region.
Despite these challenges, the reduction in commercial LPG prices has provided some relief to businesses in major Indian markets. Lower fuel costs may also help restaurants and food businesses manage expenses without immediately increasing prices for customers.
Commercial LPG rates are revised regularly based on international fuel prices, exchange rates, transportation expenses and other market factors. Businesses should check the latest rates applicable in their cities before placing fresh cylinder orders.
