Jio Payments Bank Limited (JPBL), a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services, has operationalised India’s next-generation Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Manoharpura Fee Plaza on National Highway-48 in Rajasthan. The rollout marks a major milestone in India’s transition towards barrierless toll collection and digitally connected highway infrastructure.
The project is part of India’s pilot MLFF initiative awarded by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) in October 2025. Under the project, Jio Payments Bank is responsible for toll processing at two toll plazas—Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura—on the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway corridor. The Manoharpura plaza alone is expected to process nearly 8.8 million vehicles every year, highlighting its importance on one of the country’s busiest highways.
Unlike traditional toll plazas that require vehicles to stop, the MLFF system combines Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag RFID to automatically identify vehicles and collect toll charges while they continue travelling at highway speeds. This eliminates physical barriers, reduces waiting time and improves traffic flow.
According to the company, the technology is expected to bring multiple economic benefits, including lower fuel consumption, shorter travel times, improved freight movement and better fleet utilisation. These improvements could help reduce logistics costs and enhance the efficiency of India’s transportation network.
For the implementation of the project, Jio Payments Bank has partnered with Jio Platforms Limited, which is overseeing project execution, while Tecsidel India Private Limited has deployed the software architecture and tolling infrastructure. The companies believe the successful deployment will pave the way for nationwide expansion of barrierless tolling and future GNSS-based pay-per-use road charging across India.
Jio Payments Bank said the initiative reflects its growing role in India’s digital mobility ecosystem by integrating advanced payment technology with smart transport infrastructure. The company aims to support safer, smarter and more efficient highways as India accelerates its digital infrastructure transformation.
