India’s automobile industry recorded strong growth in July, with passenger vehicle dispatches from manufacturers to dealers rising 34.3% year-on-year to 4,57,810 units, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The latest figure marks the strongest-ever July performance for India’s passenger vehicle segment. In July 2025, manufacturers had dispatched 3,40,772 passenger vehicles to dealerships.
The sharp increase comes ahead of the festive season, traditionally one of the busiest periods for automobile purchases in India. Manufacturers and dealers typically increase vehicle availability during this period to meet higher showroom traffic and anticipated bookings.
Growth was also recorded across other major automobile categories. Two-wheeler dispatches increased 22.6% year-on-year to 19,23,483 units in July, compared with 15,69,120 units during the same month last year.
Three-wheeler dispatches also registered strong growth, rising 33.4% to 92,560 units from 69,403 units in July 2025.
SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said the auto industry delivered its strongest-ever July performance, with double-digit growth across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers. He also noted that the positive momentum has continued as the industry enters the festive period.
Passenger vehicles have benefited from factors including changing consumer preferences, new model launches and improved vehicle availability at dealerships. Continued demand for SUVs and other higher-value vehicles could provide additional support to the segment in the coming months.
The two-wheeler market is also entering the festive season on a strong footing. Rural demand, replacement purchases and higher consumer spending during the festive period could support further growth in motorcycles and scooters.
Three-wheelers continue to see demand from shared mobility and last-mile transportation, with July dispatches showing a substantial improvement over the previous year.
However, dispatch figures represent wholesale movement from manufacturers to dealers and should not be directly treated as retail sales to customers. Higher dispatches can also reflect inventory building by dealerships ahead of the festive season.
With passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers all recording double-digit growth in July, the automobile industry is entering the festive season with strong momentum. Performance during the coming months will determine whether this growth continues through the remainder of the year.
