Sudhakar Malli has taken charge as Executive Director of the Reserve Bank of India with effect from October 1, 2026. He previously served as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of RBI’s Department of Supervision.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Sudhakar Malli as Executive Director (ED), with his appointment taking effect from October 1, 2026.
Before being elevated to the Executive Director position, Malli was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge of the Department of Supervision at the central bank.
Malli brings more than two-and-a-half decades of experience in financial-sector supervision. During his career at RBI, he has worked extensively on the supervision of banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and co-operative banks.
His professional experience also includes nearly five years of supervisory work in overseas jurisdictions. In addition, Malli has worked in the area of Currency Management, giving him experience across multiple central-banking functions.
In his new role as Executive Director, Malli will be responsible for the Department of Supervision (Supervisory Assessment). The department plays a key role in RBI’s supervisory framework for regulated financial institutions.
On the academic front, Malli holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).
His elevation comes as RBI continues to strengthen its supervision of regulated financial entities, including banks and NBFCs.
