CNG consumers in Delhi-NCR will have to pay more from August 29 after Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a fresh increase in retail prices. In Delhi, the price of compressed natural gas has been increased by Rs 3.89 per kg.
Following the revision, CNG in Delhi will now cost Rs 86.98 per kg, compared with the earlier price of Rs 83.09 per kg. The revised rates came into effect from 6 am on Saturday, August 29.
IGL has also increased CNG prices across its other geographical areas in the National Capital Region. According to the revised rates, CNG in Gurugram is now priced at Rs 92.01 per kg, while consumers in Noida will have to pay Rs 111.87 per kg. In Ghaziabad, the new CNG rate stands at Rs 95.59 per kg.
The company attributed the price hike to a sharp increase in international liquefied natural gas prices. Global LNG prices have remained under pressure amid the continuing crisis in West Asia, raising procurement costs for city gas distribution companies.
The latest hike is expected to increase running costs for CNG vehicle owners, including cab drivers, auto-rickshaw operators and other commercial transport users. Private vehicle owners who shifted to CNG because of its relatively lower operating cost could also feel the impact of the increase.
Any sustained rise in CNG prices may also put pressure on transport expenses in Delhi-NCR, particularly for services that depend heavily on gas-powered vehicles.
Consumers are therefore advised to check the latest rates in their respective cities, as CNG prices vary across IGL’s geographical areas.
