The 57th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12, 2026, according to an official memorandum issued by the GST Council Secretariat.
The Council meeting will begin at 11 am. Ahead of the main meeting, an officers’ meeting has been scheduled for September 11 at 11 am in New Delhi.
The GST Council Secretariat said that details regarding the venue and agenda for both meetings will be communicated separately at a later date.
The meeting will bring together members of the GST Council, which comprises the Union Finance Minister and representatives from states and Union Territories. The Council makes recommendations on key matters related to India’s GST framework, including tax rates, exemptions and other related issues.
The memorandum, dated August 28, was issued by Arvind Shrivastava, Secretary to the Government of India and ex-officio Secretary to the GST Council.
The Secretariat has asked the chief secretaries of all states, as well as the Union Territories of Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir, to inform their respective ministers in charge of finance or taxation about the upcoming meeting. Any other minister nominated by a state government as a member of the GST Council may also participate.
The Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has also been invited to the proceedings as a permanent invitee.
The specific tax and policy proposals that will be considered during the 57th GST Council meeting have not yet been disclosed. More details are expected once the Secretariat releases the detailed agenda ahead of the September 12 meeting.
