Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing its latest flagship smartphones with a strong focus on artificial intelligence, photography and performance. The new Pro models were announced at Apple’s September 9 launch event in Cupertino, California.
For Indian buyers, the iPhone 18 Pro is reported to start at ₹1,64,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at ₹1,79,900. The new devices sit at the premium end of Apple’s smartphone portfolio and bring several hardware and software upgrades over their predecessors.
New A20 Pro Chip
One of the biggest upgrades is Apple’s new A20 Pro processor. The chip is manufactured using a 2-nanometre process and is designed to deliver improved performance while supporting more advanced artificial intelligence models directly on the device. Apple has also improved its cooling system to help the phones maintain higher performance during demanding workloads.
Apple Intelligence is a major part of the new iPhone experience. The company has introduced an updated Siri with deeper app integration, while emphasising that many AI tasks will be processed directly on the device for greater privacy.
Major Camera Upgrade
Photography is another key focus of the iPhone 18 Pro series. The phones receive substantial camera improvements, with the Pro models featuring an upgraded 48-megapixel main camera with variable aperture. Apple has also introduced additional professional camera controls and improvements aimed at low-light photography and video recording.
Apple has also introduced technology designed to help users verify whether an image was captured on an iPhone or generated or modified using AI. The company calls its new authenticity system Apple Reference Image and will also support Google’s SynthID standard.
Globally, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both represent a $100 increase over their predecessors.
The launch marks Apple’s latest push to position the iPhone not only as a premium smartphone but also as a personal AI device, with the A20 Pro, upgraded Siri and enhanced cameras forming the core of the iPhone 18 Pro generation.
