The Finance Ministry will begin its month-long pre-budget consultation process with ministries and departments on October 12 as preparations for Union Budget 2027-28 move forward.
According to a September 23 notice issued by the ministry’s Budget Division, discussions will focus on finalising Revised Estimates for 2026-27 and Budget Estimates for 2027-28 for different grants and appropriations.
The meetings will be chaired by the Secretary (Expenditure) and continue until November 13.
Ministries and departments have been asked to submit the required details by October 6. Provisional Budget Estimates for 2027-28 will be finalised after the scheduled discussions are completed.
The Union Budget for 2027-28 is likely to be presented on February 1.
The budget preparation comes as policymakers assess domestic growth alongside global factors including the West Asia crisis, supply-chain disruptions, elevated crude oil prices and moderation in global growth.
