The Ministry of Tourism and ONDC have launched the National Digital Tourism Stack, an open digital infrastructure initiative aimed at connecting tourism providers, destinations and travellers across multiple digital platforms.
New Delhi — The Ministry of Tourism and Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) have launched the National Digital Tourism Stack (NDTS) to create a common digital infrastructure for India’s tourism ecosystem.
Launched on World Tourism Day 2026, the Stack is being built around an ecosystem covering more than 23,000 tourism experiences and homestays. It is designed to allow tourism providers to list their offerings once and become discoverable across participating digital platforms.
The initiative is aimed at widening market access for smaller tourism businesses and helping them connect with both domestic and international travellers without having to build separate digital systems for different platforms.
The NDTS will cover a wide range of tourism providers, including homestays, guides, attractions, experiences and transport services.
By offering common digital infrastructure, the Stack is intended to reduce the need for individual businesses to establish their own digital presence or separately integrate with multiple platforms.
More than 1,000 tourism experiences are already transacting on the ONDC Network. These include 170 Archaeological Survey of India monuments and 29 museums, providing an existing foundation for expansion of the digital tourism ecosystem.
The Stack is also being developed as AI-first infrastructure. It is expected to support emerging forms of travel discovery and planning, including AI-led interfaces and personal digital agents.
The infrastructure is intended to connect different parts of a traveller’s journey, including accommodation, experiences, routes and mobility, through common digital rails.
Trust-related capabilities are also expected to form a key part of the ecosystem. These may include provider credentials, tourism information, service standards, ratings and reviews, grievance mechanisms and other trust-building features.
According to government-cited Ministry of Tourism data, tourism contributed 5.22% to India’s GDP and supported 8.46 crore jobs in 2023-24.
The initiative seeks to address fragmentation across the tourism supply chain, particularly for smaller providers, local experiences and lesser-known destinations.
Union Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said the initiative is intended to ensure tourism growth reaches local communities, entrepreneurs, women and youth while supporting more inclusive and balanced development.
Bhuvnesh Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, said the ministry would work with States and Union Territories to curate and validate tourism experiences for inclusion in the Stack.
The NDTS forms part of ONDC’s broader approach of building open digital infrastructure across sectors. In tourism, the model is intended to allow platforms and ecosystem participants to connect and transact through common digital rails instead of operating through separate closed systems.
