Strong Harley-Davidson partnership and X440 demand drive premium segment expansion plans.
New Delhi, June 19, 2026: India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is gearing up to strengthen its presence in the premium motorcycle segment with plans to launch three new models during FY27.
The move forms part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its premium portfolio, supported by its partnership with Harley-Davidson and growing demand for higher-capacity motorcycles in India and overseas markets.
Speaking about the company’s roadmap, Hero MotoCorp CEO Harsh Vardhan Chitale said increasing market share in the premium segment remains one of the company’s key priorities. The Harley-Davidson collaboration continues to play a crucial role in achieving that objective.
X440 Success Boosts Confidence
Hero MotoCorp highlighted the strong market response received by the Harley-Davidson X440, which was developed for Indian customers and manufactured at the company’s Neemrana facility in Rajasthan.
According to the company, demand for the X440 remained exceptionally strong during the March 2026 quarter, with sales outpacing production capacity despite changes in the tax structure for premium motorcycles.
GST Changes Reshape Market Dynamics
In September 2025, GST rates on motorcycles with engine capacities above 350cc were increased from 28% to 40%, while motorcycles up to 350cc benefited from a reduced GST rate of 18%.
Hero MotoCorp has not disclosed whether its upcoming premium models will fall below the 350cc threshold. However, several competitors have already introduced premium motorcycles in lower-displacement categories to benefit from the favorable tax regime.
Expanding Premia Dealership Network
To enhance the ownership experience for premium customers, Hero MotoCorp is rapidly expanding its dedicated Premia dealership network. The company has already established around 130 Premia outlets, offering specialized sales and service experiences tailored to premium buyers.
Export Business Gains Momentum
Hero MotoCorp currently operates in 52 countries and maintains manufacturing facilities in Bangladesh and Colombia. The company reported that exports have grown by nearly 40% annually over the past two years, with premium motorcycles contributing significantly to that growth.
The planned launches are expected to further strengthen Hero MotoCorp’s position in the fast-growing premium motorcycle segment while expanding its global footprint.
