New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the findings of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted on the Jodhpur–Ahmedabad railway corridor, highlighting the mobile network performance of major telecom operators during the journey. The test evaluated download and upload speeds, along with call quality, across several important railway stations and surrounding areas.
According to the report, Reliance Jio delivered the fastest average download speed at 89.61 Mbps, significantly outperforming its competitors. Vodafone Idea (VIL) recorded an average download speed of 12.71 Mbps, while Airtel and BSNL registered 7.95 Mbps each.
When it came to upload performance, Airtel emerged as the leader with an average speed of 11.69 Mbps. Jio followed with 9.06 Mbps, while VIL achieved 8.81 Mbps. BSNL recorded the lowest average upload speed at 3.76 Mbps.
The drive test was carried out along the railway route connecting Jodhpur and Ahmedabad, covering major stations including Bhagat Ki Kothi, Luni Junction, Dundara, Samdari Junction, Mokalsar, Jalor, Modran, Marwar Bhinmal, Raniwara, Dhanera, Bhildi Junction, Patan, and Mahesana Junction.
Apart from internet speeds, TRAI also assessed call quality. The locations where call drops and call silence incidents occurred have been marked on the annexed route map accompanying the detailed report.
TRAI said the findings have been shared with the respective telecom service providers (TSPs) so they can take corrective measures wherever required. Such drive tests help regulators monitor network quality and encourage operators to improve service reliability for passengers travelling on key transport corridors.
