Government’s digital platform strengthens SHGs, financial inclusion and women-led entrepreneurship across villages

New Delhi, July 4: The Centre is accelerating the digital transformation of rural livelihoods through LokOS, a technology platform developed under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). Designed as a digital operating system for rural communities, the platform aims to improve transparency, financial inclusion and governance for millions of women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

LokOS enables complete digitisation of SHGs and their federations by maintaining digital records of members, savings, loans, repayments, financial transactions and livelihood activities. By replacing manual record-keeping with real-time digital systems, the platform improves accountability while simplifying the management of community institutions.

According to the Ministry of Rural Development, LokOS currently captures nearly ₹2 lakh crore worth of financial transactions every year within the SHG network. The platform is available through both web and mobile applications, allowing administrators as well as field-level workers to register, monitor and manage community-based organisations efficiently.

The government recently integrated SHE-LEAPS (Self-Help Entrepreneur-Livelihoods and Enterprise Application for Prosperity and Sustainability) into the LokOS ecosystem. Launched on June 29, 2026, the platform helps women entrepreneurs establish, manage and monitor farm and non-farm enterprises while improving access to business information and performance tracking.

LokOS has now expanded its footprint across 34 States and Union Territories, covering 762 districts, 7,241 blocks, 2.57 lakh Gram Panchayats and nearly 5.92 lakh villages. It digitally connects 34,314 Cluster Level Federations, 5.62 lakh Village Organizations, 94.16 lakh Self-Help Groups and over 10.03 crore SHG members.

The platform also tracks government financial assistance, including ₹9,718 crore under the Revolving Fund, ₹64,607 crore under the Community Investment Fund and ₹38 crore through the Community Enterprise Fund, ensuring greater transparency in fund utilisation.

A key focus area is the Lakhpati Didi initiative, where LokOS digitally monitors 3.87 crore potential beneficiaries, supported by more than 4 lakh Community Resource Persons and 6,611 Master Trainers. The platform also maintains 18.5 crore Digital Aajeevika Registers, providing a strong digital database for livelihood planning and policy implementation.

By combining digital governance with financial inclusion, LokOS is helping strengthen rural institutions, empower women entrepreneurs and create a more transparent and self-reliant rural economy.
