Swiggy’s Instamart has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to introduce India’s first on-demand LPG cylinder delivery service through a quick-commerce platform. The pilot service has been launched in Bengaluru, allowing customers to order cooking gas cylinders in the same way they purchase groceries and household essentials online.
The service currently offers HPCL’s newly introduced HP Navya 10 kg composite LPG cylinder alongside the company’s existing 5 kg metal LPG cylinder. Unlike traditional LPG booking systems, customers do not need an existing domestic LPG connection to place an order, making the service suitable for students, working professionals, tenants and small households.
For first-time customers, the purchase will be treated as a new cylinder sale, requiring identity verification and proof of delivery. Existing users can place refill orders by returning their empty HPCL cylinder during delivery. The company said the process has been designed to maintain regulatory compliance while simplifying access to LPG.
Deliveries will be carried out through HPCL’s authorised LPG distributor network instead of regular quick-commerce delivery partners. Trained distributor personnel will handle transportation and delivery while following all prescribed safety and regulatory standards for LPG handling, ensuring customer safety remains a priority.
The partnership marks another expansion of India’s fast-growing quick-commerce sector beyond groceries into essential utility services. While the service is currently limited to Bengaluru, its performance during the pilot phase is expected to determine whether HPCL and Instamart expand the offering to more cities across the country in the coming months.
