New Delhi, June 18: Indian mango exports have continued to grow strongly despite Japan’s decision to ban imports, with more than 45 countries purchasing Indian mangoes this season and export volumes already surpassing last year’s figures.
The strong overseas demand has brought relief to mango growers and exporters, demonstrating the growing global popularity of Indian varieties. According to officials, export promotion campaigns conducted in international markets have played a significant role in expanding demand and strengthening India’s export basket.
The United States and the United Arab Emirates emerged as the two largest importers of Indian mangoes this year. Other major buyers included the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Oman, the Netherlands and Singapore.
Industry experts noted that although Japan’s ban initially raised concerns among exporters, its overall share in India’s mango exports was relatively small. As a result, the impact on total exports has been limited.
According to export data, India exported mangoes worth approximately USD 56.5 million during FY 2024-25. With current shipments already exceeding last year’s pace, the industry expects further growth in the coming years.
Government agencies and export promotion bodies have also intensified marketing efforts in key international markets including the UAE, Oman, Malaysia and Spain to increase awareness and demand for Indian mangoes.
India remains the world’s largest producer of mangoes. However, it still trails countries such as Mexico in global mango exports. Industry observers believe continued market expansion, improved logistics and targeted promotional campaigns could significantly boost India’s share in the global mango trade.
The growing acceptance of Indian mangoes across international markets highlights the increasing competitiveness of India’s agricultural exports and creates new opportunities for farmers and exporters alike.
