Story
German luxury carmaker Audi India has unveiled an aggressive growth strategy aimed at doubling its market share in the country’s luxury vehicle segment over the next three years. The company plans to introduce six new vehicles, including electric models, over the next 18 months while expanding its dealership network and enhancing customer experience.
According to Audi India Brand Director Balbir Singh Dhillon, the company has finalized a roadmap focused on widening its product portfolio, strengthening distribution and improving customer touchpoints. Audi aims to increase its share of the Indian luxury car market to around 15–16% by 2029.
The product offensive will begin with the launch of the new Audi Q3 during the upcoming festive season. This will be followed by the new Q5, Q7 and the all-electric Q6 e-tron by the end of next year. The premium A5 sedan and flagship Q9 SUV are scheduled to arrive in 2027, with additional electric vehicles expected later.
Audi’s sales in India are expected to remain largely flat in the current calendar year, but the company believes growth will return from 2027 as new models reach customers. Dhillon said India remains a high-potential market despite recent challenges and offers stronger long-term growth prospects than many mature global markets.
The luxury carmaker sold 4,510 vehicles in India during 2025, a decline of 22% from 5,816 units in the previous year. The broader luxury vehicle industry has also faced pressure from a weaker rupee, rising import costs and repeated price hikes caused by currency fluctuations, as many premium vehicles are either imported or assembled using imported components.
Despite these challenges, Audi remains optimistic about the future. The company also plans to increase its dealership network by 25%, taking the total number of outlets to 40 by the end of next year. Dhillon added that the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement could create fresh opportunities for the automobile sector and support long-term demand growth in the premium vehicle market.
