The Ministry of MSME and MoSPI have signed an MoU to enable two-way data sharing from the Udyam Registration ecosystem to strengthen India’s National Statistical Business Register.
New Delhi — The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to institutionalise data sharing for the development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register.
The MoU was signed by Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, and Dalip Singh, Additional Director General, MoSPI, in the presence of senior officials from both ministries.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of MSME will share unit-wise Udyam Registration data with MoSPI through application programming interfaces. A two-way API mechanism will facilitate data exchange between the two ministries for preparing and strengthening the National Statistical Business Register.
The framework is aimed at improving the coverage, consistency and reliability of business-related information used for statistical purposes. Data from the Udyam Registration ecosystem will provide MoSPI with additional information to improve the identification and coverage of economic units across the country.
The Statistical Business Register is a central and regularly updated database of statistical units engaged in economic activities within a defined geographical territory. It includes businesses, enterprises, establishments and other relevant economic units along with their key characteristics and relationships.
The SBR is considered an important part of the foundational infrastructure required for an economic statistics system. It can help identify the target population for economic surveys, support survey sample selection and facilitate the preparation of business demography statistics.
It also provides a common framework for business-related statistical information and can improve integration and consistency across different administrative and statistical data sources.
The MoU is expected to create a structured mechanism for using administrative data from the MSME ecosystem, strengthen India’s statistical infrastructure and support more comprehensive and reliable economic data collection.
